Preferably as close to Itaewon as possible.

Thanks

And if no where, how much does a "normal" place cost a month?

you can find something in haebongchon for around that much. if you throw in a little extra a month you'll probably be able to find something a bit nicer though.

Should give you an idea of stuff in Haebangchon. Pretty much anywhere (by anywhere i mean a normal cheap neighborhood, not like Apgujeong) in Seoul 400K will get you a decent-ish one room or a 1 or 2 bedroom in a basement, or possibly not in a basement if you look.

Also depends how much key money you are looking to put down too. What you got?

HBC is a filthy high crime area in Seoul and if you live in a basement the risk of being a victim of burglary / robbery go up even higher.

400,000 won??? LOL. You get what you pay for.

What's with mostly Itaewon listings? Are foriegners only allowed to rent there. Itaewon is scuzzy. If I were going to live in Seoul, I'd rather live in a nicer or tolerable area. Also seems like that site favors low deposits and high rents. I would prefer higher deposit and low rents in nicer areas. Do foriegners face discrimination in being rented to from Koreans? I mean there is no way I'd live in Itaewon if I lived in Seoul. I live in a modern one room building -2 years old - 12 pyeong - great insulation (warm in winter) for 3 mil deposit and 300,000 rent. Could have got a 2 room for 5 mil 350,000 rent (15 pyeong) or a 3 room for 10 mil and 450,000 rent (18 pyeong). But, I'm in a midsized city. I'd say as an English teacher, it is actually possible to live in modern place with reasonable prices. Just not in Seoul.

400.000 krw?
either very far in the east of seoul or as said, close to itaewon.

400.000 will get you a crappy one room apartment. expect high key deposits tho. to get such a cheap rent, you might have to pay 10 mil krw for key deposit.

other option.

room with other people. 400.000 gets you a rather nice room. but with that you also will have to expect to pay some key deposit. either one months rent or what ever they request.

btw. utilities come extra. ask the person you are renting from what to expect in terms of utility costs.

I use to know a K chick who lived in Sillim. Sketchy looking area. But the one room was not bad. Kind of modern. She said she paid 10 mil deposit and 500,000 a month for rent. I think EPIK gives a 400,000 won subsidy. But out here in the provinces for much less key, you can get a nice modern non-sketchy place. New Korean buildings are amazing. They've learned what insulation is. Heat works. Nice to be warm in a building in winter for a change. Still have ugly wallpapaer to deal with, but that can be changed. Ha ha. I think if any of you are going to rent out here in the provinces, you have to sell yourself as a quiet respectful tenant. Many Koreans may be reluctant to rent to a foriegner who is noisy and loud. I've taken great pains to always be quiet in my place. If I want to drink, I go out.

I don't get it either, I would much rather live in a Korean family neighborhood that will be virtually crime free and quiet. It's not like it takes that long to travel to Itaewon and who wants to be around foreigners all the time anyway? No offense to the fine people on this forum. Wink

Just curious about who has to pay this 10,000,000 won key deposit?

Maybe its just me, but I don't have that kind of cash just lying around.

If you've been here a while and aren't paying off student loans you ought to have that much laying around! Very Happy

Unfortunately, I fall under the 'paying for the rest of my life' category, so no cash like that on hand.

I could throw down as much as 8 million won on a deposit. Here's the deal. I tried to quit my job, but they refused, and instead offered me a 400,000 won allowance to rent a place in Seoul, more pay, and until the end of August I can still use my apartment in Bundang if I wish to do so as they have already paid the rent till then. (Guess I should have tried to quit earlier lol).

During the week, or when I don't feel like going out, I can just stay in Bundang, then on the weekends or when I feel like going out I can stay at my "Itaewon" place.

And I almost exclusively hang out in Itaewon, so it makes the most sense to get a place as close as possible to there...

anyone know of any other sites to find apartments...?
