Didn't see that coming!

So what are the USA's chances?

a snowball's chance in hell.

i mean that goal really was more of an English error than an American success.

They should have played David james instead.
But then again England have always made a habit of confining their best talent to the bench. Rolling Eyes

Success could be viewed as having beaten or tied the England team in the only two World Cup matches where the two teams have gone head to head going back some 60 years.

Unless, of course, one views World Cup records as not being important. Wink

It was a fairly crap match. Very disappointing.

Argentina vs Nigeria was much more worth the watch.

And England's 1st and only goal was due to a defensive error. Goals are scored when the other team makes errors, that is how the game works.

USA were pretty dire.

England, too, were terrible. As an Englishman, I was pretty embarrassed at the amount of times we resorted to the 'long ball', the lack of invention and the way we managed to squander possession so easily.

Let's hope for all our sakes that each team gets better and gives us something to cheer

I thought it was a good game, best of the tournament so far, yes the Argies played some nice stuff, but for end to end entertainment U.S.A vs England was by far the better match, both teams had chances to win the game, 30 shots at goal in game is a high old count.

As for the U.S.A's chances they'll get through the group but will go out in the next round to either Germany or Serbia, who'll be a little too smart for them. England will go out in the Semi.

6 days later I would like to ammend my England prediction, England will go out on wednesday. Apologies.

With an experieced David James and a gifted Joe Hart, what was England's coach Fabio Capello thinking when he selected Green to play in the first place?

America has about 5 goalies that are better than any English goalie:

Tim Howard
Brad Guzman
Marcus Hahnemann
Brad Friedel
Kasey Keller

And no, you can't have any.

The USA have no chance of winning the World Cup so please don't get your hopes up. Smile

You don't say. Americans are more thrilled about how bad England is than how good our team is. Americans would be happy with getting to the knock out stage. Win a game there and it would be awesome. We have very low expectations, while England's ego is way too big.

It's just pure Schadenfreud.

Well, this news has made my day. Now we can go back to less important things like the oil spill.

yeah, because the best place to talk about the oil spill is on a thread about the World Cup. why limit ourselves to the oil spill? shouldn't we talk about Haiti or Darfur?
