I ran across this the other day while trying to find something to keep me occupied. It's really interesting. I took a couple of photos, and while not great, they did appear in 3D.

Enjoy

I find the current obsession with 3D a bit odd since the technology is nearly two hundred years old. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stereoscopy) It's been popping in and out of fashion since it's creation, but usually with little staying power.

That's because the concept has always been a fantasy of men, and as the technology get's better the means to create a more lifelike, inexpensive, and relatively easy way to do 3D becomes more and more possible. I think once we see a really viable way to see 3D from your TV without glasses and without having to be right in front of it at a certain distance, i'll take it more seriously. But until then it's not the right time.

OP...what do I do if I can't get my eyes uncrossed!? Razz

@red_devil. I agree with you 100%. No glasses ftw.
Dang! This "3D" is almost the same effect as we had back in the 80's. Let's get some technology, shall we?

3D is fun in short bursts. Avatar killed in 3D but many, many movies would have nothing added to them by being in 3D. One thing I would love to see is nature documentaries in 3D. I think that would be killer.

Interesting!

I do agree with the general sentiment that 3d is way overhyped. I have not been impressed with any of the 3D TVs displayed at the various HiMarts and HomePlus that I've seen. I even demo'd some World of Warcraft in 3D and I thought it still looked like a bunch of 2D flat images at different depths on a stage.

I'm also not a fan of gimmicky 3D, like where certain elements fly out of the movie screen at you just to make you experience it. Beowulf was a prime example of this. So many shots were composed specifically for the viewer to feel like a spear or sword was being thrust toward them.

Avatar worked really well for me because it was also a slow transition into the 3D world. It didn't hit me all at once from the first frame. Instead I was experiencing it in steps as the hero was experiencing and discovering Pandora.

It'll be interesting to see how 3D plays out, since it was being hyped quite a bit at this years E3.

I put a ballpoint pen in front of my face. Stared at the tip and then looked at the computer monitor.

Granted, this might not be new technology, but it's still fun. Especially if you are the one taking the pics. Some of mine have turned out really good.

When 3D holographs become a commercial reality, that will be cool. Current 3D technology does nothing for me.
