Hi everyone, I am moving to Korea next week and I am starting a new job in Gwangju (the one in the South). I'm a 26 year old male from England.

Just thought it would be cool to start some dialogue with anybody who is currently there, as I won't know a single person when I arrive! I lived in Korea for a while last year, and I know how lonely in can be when you're stuck in the apartment alone in a strange country. I'd like to avoid that if possible! I'm pretty easy going and I don't have trouble making new friends, but I could use a lifeline for when I arrive. So.... anybody want a beer/ cup of coffee/ game of darts/ pretty much anything? let me know Very Happy

Also... I'd love to hear any tips, observations, notes or anecdotes about the city of Gwangju from residents past and present.... good places to go/see, good bars/restaurants etc. etc.

Cheers! Smile

I'm not moving there till the end of July, but wouldn't mind grabbing a bite to eat or a pint after I arrive.

Sorry to sound blunt, but there is a new thread about life in Gwangju nearly every week. A search will bring up all the basics and impressions.

Your best bet for getting in touch with people is Facebook. There is a general group for Gwangju:

http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2330675731

As well as dozens of groups for various interests, hobbies, events, etc.

thanks. I did actually do a search but the most recent thread I found was from about two years ago... hence the new one. if you want to meet people who live there currently, it makes sense to start a new discussion.

Anyway, it comes up often. Facebook gets far more attention from people in the area, and will be your best bet.

Here's another recent thread about people looking to meet up, so maybe you'll have some luck with them:

Hey dude,

Been here about 8 weeks and loving it so far. Managed to round up a pretty good group of friends already. We go out every weekend, hike, and play the occasional sport.

There is also a monthly get together for local teachers which is awesome for making new friends, unfortunately it was last night so you've a while to wait.

Anyhow send me a PM with your name and I'll Facebook you.

Seth,
