I took a teaching job about 6 months ago. I was pretty ahead of the game and had completed all the steps to leave two months before my scheduled departure (signed contract, visa interview, etc.) I had some personal issues come up and had to turn down the job. I gave my school a pretty decent heads up (~2 months) and pretty much paid all my own expenses up to that point (paid shipping on my documents, etc). My school never got back to me when I told them I could no longer work for them, I figured they were upset. I kept it professional, sent a couple more emails, still nothing.
Anyway, I have cleared up my personal issues and I want to try to teach in Korea again. Am I going to have a problem getting a new Visa? I have a big stamp in my passport that says I am cleared for entry until Jan. 2011. I don't know if my former school canceled that or what problem I might run into applying for another Visa. Anyone have advice? |

I'm curious as to why you didn't call your school?
anyway, your visa never officially took effect if you never entered the country, I think you have a certain period of time and then it's invalidated if one never enters.
just call immi and ask them about it - shouldn't be a problem. they'll look you up in the computer. |

I guess I didn't call because:
A. I don't like giving bad news over the phone and email seemed like a less stressful way to deal with it.
B. The technical aspect of timezones and international calls seemed more complicated than a simple email. I was willing to have a conversation over the phone after the email, but I could never get a reply from them.
Anyway, I have dealt with immigration and they have been pretty unhelpful. At least with the office I am covered by. I was just wondering if someone had a similar experience. Turned down a job after accepting and took another before coming over. |
