Hey everyone!

I returning to Korea after a couple of years of real life and have been offered a position in Cheongju, I have reservations though because I really want to be in Seoul, having lived in the sticks of hongseong the last time I was there! But was thinking maybe I should give it some consideration, so can anyone tell me what its like?

Also is it delusional to wait for a position in Seoul? There seems to be a massive influx at the moment and I dont want to be hasty! My boyfriend is coming over with me and he doesnt have nay experience, but surely we should b e able toget a couples position in Seoul? Am I wrong?

Any help appreciated!!

Don't aim for the sky, when you're only driving a sedan young lady.

Anyone with any insight?

Also, is it too late to be thinking public schools if ideally I want to start work in late august/early september?

me and my boyfridn have a couple job in Cheongju. We have been here for one month and really like it. Seoul is only an hour and a half on the bus so you can kind of get the best of both. We are in quite a quiet part of Cheongju, but went in to the student district last week and it was crazy!

It's quite tough not knowing the language, as where we are living, nothing is in English. Not sure if it's like that in other parts of Cheongju as we still have lots to explore.

Seoul is really close though, so I wouldn't let the location put u off ur decision.

I live in Cheongju and love it. Personally I would rather live outside Seoul and just travel there when I need to - which is pretty easy from here.

Interested to know who the other Cheongju-ites are on here too.

great name, Val.... kinda ironic though. how many of his roles would have been muted if he had been on some psycho-active drug?

Not counting the ones he did use in research for THE DOORS...

I suggest:

If you wanna go to Seoul, go to Seoul! I couldn't imagine living in a city smaller than 2.5 million in Korea anymore...

I find that the smaller cities are a bit run-down, boring, and they're all kinda similar to each other. No 'scene' in arts, music, or anything. In fact, I'd say areas like Hongdae, Itaewon, Hyewa, Gangnam, etc... these places make Seoul very very livable. If they didn't exist, and all Seoul was is just the kimbap naras, instant coffee shops, hoffs, noraebangs, pc bangs, and paris baguettes of the smaller towns, I'm afraid I wouldn't last in Korea more than a year. Come on, everyone who's been in Korea more than a year and has traveled around knows what I'm talking about...

In Seoul, you're close to nature too believe it or not. You can hike Gwanak mountain and totally forget you're in a city of 12.5 million. Pollution here isn't as bad as Daegu.

Only problem with Seoul is that it is busy, polluted, and some people can be snobbish. But overall, the positives drastically outweigh the negatives... it's awesome.

The reason this seems to be is because you can't find those things in the smaller cities, or indeed the countryside, by just visiting there. If you live there for a while, you can indeed find plenty of music and arts. Provided you're open to something other than the cookie-cutter indie/hipster/DJ scene that are Itaewon and Hongdae.

Of course this is all subjective, but I say the negatives drastically outweigh the positives. I can get to Seoul in an hour and a half by bus if I really need deodorant or some decent cheese, and the place I live is a million times cleaner and quieter, has plenty of culture if you know where to look and is friendlier in general.
