|
|
Last night, I turned off my computer by normal shutdown. However, I noticed that the fans were still running. So I turned off the switch on the back of the computer.
When I got home from work today, I tried turning it on. The fans were still running but the damn thing wouldn't boot. Googled the issue; tried reseating everything but still nothing (popped out the battery and put it back in too).
I always get good advice from the tech heads on Dave's so can anyone help me? |

I don't. The problem is the computer turns on (lights, fans) but the screen is completely blank. I'm pretty sure it's the computer and not the monitor because the Windows sound doesn't come out at all. |

| Do you hear a beep at any point after your turn on the computer? It sounds like your BIOS might be failing to POST (power-on self test, where the BIOS loads all the hardware that you have in your computer), but if that's the case it could be due to any number of things. |

Ok, so what I'm going to tell you isn't a joke at all. Something like that happened to me twice in the past, but it doesn't mean that your problem is the same as the one I had. Anyway, you don't have much to lose trying what I'm about to suggest.
Unplug your computer. Open your case. Remove your RAM sticks. Take a white eraser and "erase" the gold connectors to clean them properly.
As I said, I'm not kidding you. When something similar happened to me I almost completely took apart my desktop testing everything with another computer but to no avail. Then, I searched the Web for a solution and found that one. I thought it was a bit crazy but since I was about to go crazy, why not! So, anywya, I did it and "voila" my computer was back to normal!
Of course, you may have a different problem, but try this and post back if it worked or not.
Good luck! |

Haha actually I tried it because I also saw that on the net. Didn't work. Maybe I didn't erase hard enough. Did you have the same issues I was having?
Also my computer never beeps so didn't hear anything this time too. It would just turn on but won't boot. Gonna take it to the place I bought it from and tell them to fix it.
So frustrating. Thanks for all the advice so far!
Good luck! |

See if there is any beep codes that sound after you start. If not you either fried the CPU/Mobo or as one user said, the RAM isn't connected well. If that was the case you would probably get a beep sequence that tells you the RAM isn't working.
If the computer is doing nothing at all, no bios screen, then I think it must be the mobo. If this is a laptop, you're looking at buying a new one because a new mobo or cpu will cost you 600+ easy. May as well buy a netbook for 400k. |

| It is probably a motherboard issue unless of course the only problem is that the monitors don't project a display which I believe is not the case with yours. |

Well it turns out that a faulty PSU fried the motherboard. I took it to a tech today and they first suspected it was the motherboard so they tried 2 motherboards that they had and subsequently fried them.
The place I bought my motherboard closed down. I didn't want to bother to call the company that makes all the components so I just bought a new MOBO and PSU.
Thanks for everyone's help as always. |
