I have a wifi question if anyone can help me. (My school IT guy is terrified to speak any English)

I've got a Korean router that I can't get my ipod touch to work with. It works VERY VERY slowly and gets like 2 bars even right next to it. It times out on a regularly as well. Recently I got an ipad, and while it is faster than the ipod, it is still VERY VERY slow and spotty.

Both items work MUCH faster stealing a connection that I can only get from hanging out the window and at random hot spots. So I know they work much faster.

I have a laptop using wifi from the router and it is pretty fast.

But something doesn't work with this router and the ipod (especially) and ipad

its a Korean router called a COSY. The only things I know about it are...
"Wired and Wireless internet (IP) sharing (b+g)
54 mbps
802.11b + 802.11g

and the rest is pretty much in Korean. wifi and networking is my black hole of computer knowledge, can anyone offer any info? I bought the router because it was cheap... Do I need to upgrade? What do I need?

I'd really like an answer to this question too. I've used several different routers, and had these issues with my iPad. My current one is IPTime N104M.

I have had very mixed results with Korean routers. Our school had an IPTime router that worked with every laptop in the building but not my iPod touch or iPad even if it was, literally, right next to it. I've also had my iPad at a few public wifi places simply not work, despite other people using it as well.

I'm guessing it's some combination of router and Apple product not playing nicely together. And since a lot of Korean tech stuff is far from mac friendly, it wouldn't be a huge leap of logic to guess they simply were never tested on OS X.

I've had two router that I've purchased out here. The first was a Netgear WRG614 that worked fine with my iPad (but the menu was all in Korean). The other is a Belkin 802.11n router that I just bought last week. It too runs fine with iPods / iPads. And it has a language option so I can tweak it in English.

where (chain store?) and how much was this router? I try using Gmarket but I am afraid it will spur on epilepsy.

The thing with routers is that they have different encryptions which can be found in the router's setting page.

It can be either without a password (No Encryption) or with a password (WEP, WPA, WPA2).

Choose the optimal encryption for you. In my case, I chose No Encryption and everything worked fine. My laptop and iPhone all get pretty good connection.

I purchased the Netgear at E-Mart last year. A few weeks ago I purchased the Belkin router at Lotte Mart. Each was around 40,000 won or so. More expensive than the Korean brands but frankly I was happy to pay it. In fact, I was about to shell out a heckuva lot more for an Airport Extreme but I decided to hold off.
