So I'm just sitting in my office grading papers and I've heard 2 huge accidents in the last 16 hrs. Frightening.

1 huge head on collision with someone running a red light and another person pulling directly into the path of the offending car just because her light had turned green. I mean, the guy who ran the red light didn't even have time to put on his brakes (once he skipped using them for the red light)....just BOOM. Go figure, both stupid parties exemplified 2 of the bad driver types in Korea, one was a young woman in a Matiz while the other was a man of equal age who was driving a big black car with fancy rims...you know what they were each responsible for...One drives like he's God's gift to cars ..."Didn't you see my car? it's bigger and the rims are really expensive." the other drives as if driving and shopping for shoes are the same thing..."Ohhh look at the pretty lights."

I didn't even run out to see if I could help for the second one...this is becoming way too 'everyday'. I can't count how many times I've heard that all too familiar sound from my apartment window, and I've seen much worse.

It's like a bloody demolition derby out there sometimes. I'm going to start driving my car backwards everywhere now...and saving for a roll cage will be in the budget starting next month.

Before I read the opening post, the title made me assume that the OP had gotten into another accident.

How hard is it to get a drivers license there? By the sound of your story, not very strict on driving portion of the test.

Perhaps those intersections are notorious for accidents and the timing of the lights are off? Usually there is a delay by a few seconds or so between the time one side turns red and other direction turns green. Or maybe there is something structurally wrong with that intersection?

Concerning the previous post, has anyone else noticed a change in the cycles of lights over the past few months? It used to be that the green arrow for left turns was the last cycle before the main road would turn green, but I have noticed this has changed and now the left turn (as if you are on a main road turning to a smaller road) is now the first cycle.

Back when it was the last cycle, I would often see people in that turning lane ride it slow because they knew when it turned yellow they could speed up and jump into the main lane without having to wait. I am personally glad to see the change although I cant say for certain whether it was done to increase traffic safely and prevent these lane jumpers.
