Trying to find some nice metal chopsticks for a Xmas gift. Anyone know anywhere that does this sort of thing? No tacky wood ones, but something with a little flair beyond the basic metal. I haven't had much luck on Gmarket. Thanks a lot.

i tried getting some ballin' ones for my brother back during last christmas. i was hoping to find some novelty/high end shop that had crazy ones like carbon-fiber, magnesium or tungsten -- something cool/automobile-themed like that.

best i could find was some weird gold titanium ones at namdaemun. they were actually pretty cool, frosted goldish-tinted hollow titanium with spoons that had the hanja for good luck polished into the spoon part. came as a set of 4 chopsticks and 2 spoons for 50k won.

after asking all my korean friends/co-workers, the general consensus was that you wouldn't really find cool stuff like that here as chopsticks aren't a novelty, they're just seen as a commonplace tool. still, i was expecting to find some really gourmet shop that would have like gold-encrusted diamond-tipped way-over-the-top expensive ones, but to no avail...

i was a bit surprised, though, cuz it would be like buying carbon fiber forks or cups or something back in the US, and i'm sure you could find those without too much trouble on ebay or something...

I would love to find some fancy chopsticks too, they'd make spectacular gifts...

But I guess there aren't a lot of high-end fork stores in the U.S. either, so I understand the lack thereof.

Yeah spicy, that's what I'm looking for- ballin' chopsticks. You don't remember where in Namdaemun you found those, do you? Anyone else??

i ate with some pretty killer chopsticks at this restaurant I cannot remember.

They were rounded metal, really light with wooden tips about an inch at the end and longer than average. Real nice blend of utility and design. Wish I could remember where i used em now.

I think Japan is the way to go too... You can find some cool ones on thinkgeek, like personal foldable chopsticks etc...

If you ever find yourself in Hong Kong, go to Lantau Island, take the Sky tram to teh giant Buddha and in the village there is a fancy chopsticks shop I bought matching set for my parents for about $25
