I live in Suwon and want to go to Fukuoka.

Is it better to fly or take the train/ferry from Busan?

From Suwon it would be easier to fly, rather than getting to Busan and then the 3-hour ferry. Though if you're not pressed for time, the ferry ride is a nice experience.

I prefer flying just because it's such an easy flight there.

Think of the environment, take the ferry.

the ferry is a great way to see Busan as you leave as well as less hassle from airport security. I hate all those rules and regulations. Pretty soon you will have to board and ride the plane naked.

It really depends what you mean by better.

Train/ferry via Busan does give you the chance to visit Busan (if you want to), it might be the cheaper trip and it might be the easier one to get a ticket for the day you want.

But if time or convenience matters to you, then flying is the only answer. Suwon to Busan by train plus the jetfoil (faster but more expensive) will be a total of 8-9 hours. If you take the regular ferry it's cheaper, but you'd be leaving Suwon early afternoon at the latest and arriving in Fukuoka the next morning.

Flying would mean 1 hour to the airport, 2 hours for check-in and a flight of just over an hour. In other words, half the time of the fastest ferry option. Airport to downtown (or elsewhere in Kyushu) from Fukuoka Airport is also much easier than from the ferry terminal.

Thanks, the last reply was the most helpful.

I have already been to Busan several times so seeing the city isn't a priority.

Fare difference between Jul/Aug ICN-Fukuoka return flight and KTX+jetfoil return is about KRW 100000. Load factor on ICN-FUK cannot be as high as NRT or KIX.

BUT, the latter can get cheaper if you buy a 'Korea-Japan joint ticket' from Korail, as cheap as KRW 220k return. (due to 30% discount throughout)
