This is where the school fires you but they do it at their convenience.
I am not being fired but I am noticing this type of behavior with schools more often....

Let me explain. Years ago I was working at a hagwon. Your basic afternoon elementary and middle school one. Then I got a dismissal letter with a warning letter. So by giving a warning letter they could fire me. The reasons I thought were complete shash. Actually the school just did not need me. They had 4 foreign teachers they really only needed 3. Actually if they would have been honest I would have stepped down. Anyways... Still they where giving me about two weeks notice BUT the convenience part was that summer intensive classes where coming up, yet they still needed me for that month to teach in the morning. So they where going to keep me on and they would pay me less. I was panicked and needed the extra time to find a job - so I took the deal. Now the story gets stranger is during the summer camp the school fired a teacher at another campus so in the end the decided to not fire me and just move me to the new school. Once again I did not mind but the whole rigamarole was strange. I was fired but at the schools convenience.

Now I am seeing this a bit more lately.... For example this thread.

I actually have some details about the inside story. And in the end I think this guy will be fired soon or maybe not soon but I do not expect the school to keep him for the full contract. Still it looks like he being fired slowly and at convenience.

Another recent thread.

In it the teacher is fired because of troubles with co-teacher. Still they ask him to stay on an train his replacement and he was ending OVER a month later. I mean come on if your gonna get fired do not stick around to help the people who are screwing your over.

So people what are your experiences with this tactic or just what is your thoughts?

If you notice this happening more often, then maybe it's because schools can be more choosy these days. They're certainly more choosy when it comes to hiring teachers, so maybe that's also reflected in the firing.

They can be more choosy or more likely thrifty these days with the influx of applicants at the low end of the pay scale.

I think that this happens more often then not. A long time ago, I was in a similar situation in which I wasn't good enough for the whole year but ok for summer camp. Also, there would be no visa run because hey I was only teaching camp(!). So, I found a new job and that hogwon ensured no face was lost.
