I've recently accepted and mailed out all my visa documents for a position that begins in August. There's about a 1/3 chance that I may have to cancel at the last minute for personal reasons and stay with my family through the end of the year. If I do so, will I have problems in the future applying to jobs in Korea? I'm worried that if I apply again later, the immigration office will reject my visa for having canceled a job contract.
Anyone experience a similar situation or know someone who has? I'd greatly appreciate any info. |

if you break, you can be assured you won't get your documents back. You have to do what is most important regardless of the cost. Family is more important than anything. |

I don't mind if they keep my documents. I'm more concerned that my name will be on some blacklist which prevents me from applying for another visa in the future.
But in the end, I do realize that family comes first.... |

You should contact the school or recruiter if you can't contact the school and let them know. If they are ok with it, they will cancel and report you not working for them.
Then, there will be no blacklist issues. If you wait till the final moments and then leave, it still won't be that big of a deal since that's the second biggest recruiting period. However, it's better to notify now if you know you can't go.
If you wait until after July 15th, I wouldn't plan on using that same recruiter. |

Assuming it is a hakwon that you have applied to/been accepted at:
If they apply for the visa confirmation number you will have to wait until it expires (90 days after issue) before you can re-apply for another one.
Other than that there is only the off-chance that they will blacklist you with their local hakwon association.
On the other hand, if you applied to a public school position (like EPIK) and then don't show they MAY put you on a no-hire list within their own administration.

Thanks for the responses. I probably won't know until end of July whether I need to back out of the contract, but hopefully I'll know before then and won't need to cancel. |
