Ill be moving to Seoul in a matter of months with a 4-track, sampler, and plenty of crazy ideas. Ive toured around the USA and Canada, as well as, parts of the UK. Ideally Im looking to get together with a violinist (or other stringed instruments) someone with a nice synthesizer, or a better guitar player than myself to screw around in our free time and see if anything comes about.
The sound I have in my head is a classic lo-fi 60s and 70s pop sound ala: The Byrds, Dylan, Can, Velvet Underground, Simon and Garfunkel, Neil Young, Leonard Cohen, and The Carpenters mashed with the soul of Curtis Mayfield and The Impressions, Sam Cooke, and early James Brown.
Style isnt everything though, I am heavy into improvisation and am more interested in sound as art and the idea behind it rather than following a musical pattern ala: Glenn Branca, Rhys Chatman, LaMonte Young, early Air, Silver Apples, Kraftwerk, Sonic Youth, Suicide, Brian Eno, Slowdive, and Jesus and Mary Chain.
So yeah, get in touch or post a reply here if you've heard of any of these bands.
Also, does anyone know of some good clubs and record stores that cater to the above? |

You need to get a hold of Cubase and Reason. A "4 track"? 1985 is over!
By the way, what sampler do you have? |

Zing!
But completely off base my friend, id be carrying around my 8-track reel to reel if it were more portable!! I love the raw sound of analog...
I have a small Yamaha SU200, but I am hoping to buy something slicker soon, how are equipment stores in Seoul? |

You're better off buying stuff used in North America before coming here. The stuff you're looking for is insanely priced in Korea. There are good deals at used stores in New York (order by phone) on 5~10 year old stuff, that's still very useful. But you can do even more these days with software than you ever could with the old hardware.
I used to have a great late 80's/early 90's rack when I was a touring musician:
Roland U-20
Roland RD-200 digital piano
Roland A-30 controller
Roland S-330 sampler
Roland Juno-106
Roland MT-32
Kawai K1M
Kawai K3
Korg Poly-61M
Yamaha DX-21
Emu Proformance-1
Overkill, but it sounded GREAT. Anyway, your average PC, with the right software (bought or pirated), can sound better than that stuff ever did. Hardware is becoming the domain of life performance, only. |

Thats quite a rackmount, were you in Genesis?
Ive actually never used Cubase and Reason to much extent and dont really know all that much about it.
Can anyone get me a copy of Cubase and Reason? And a laptop? |

I'm there. Am a fellow 4-track abuser of some experience, and am based a little outside of Seoul. In Anyang to be precise.
Currently in posession of a cello, guitar, autoharp, melodica and there's an old 80s casio on the way. Better yet, I can actually play the things. Well, to some degree anyway.
60/70s lofi sounds like something...along the lines of The United States of America and Os Mutantes. Anyway, PM me. This is not horseshit talk. Would be very, very interested. |

I'd definitely be interesting in hooking up and seeing what interesting sounds may transpire. Influences sound great. My last band was a punk/experimental band that sadly disbanded.
Currently the only equipment I have is an Epiphone guitar; but am versatile enough to play anything (maybe not well... but play nonetheless.) |
