I have that exact model and it works great. I don't think it can it can slow down or speed up the subtitles, but I think there is a delay/offset option for the subtitles. It has handled every file I've ever thrown at it with no problems. |

I also have this model and really enjoy using it. It can play any type of file and any subtitle extension. The subtitles don't have to be hard coded. Just download the subtitle you want off the internet and put it in the same folder as the video file.
I usually download a movie or tv show in HD, put it on my external drive or even my usb thumb drive, plug it into the WD Live Box, and then select it on the screen. When it starts to play you can scroll through the available subtitles and select the one you want.
There is also an ethernet input so you can connect to your home network and stream video from your computer to your tv. I haven't used this option so
I am not sure how smooth it is.
You can also get a USB wireless adapter and put it into the box to connect to your wireless network then stream. From what I've read it can be almost any USB adapter. It doesn't have to be a special WD Live model. Again, I haven't done this, so I don't know how well it works.
It was WELL worth the money and suggested it to some other friends who also love it. |

I have this model and I love it. It is a little quirky.
1. It can't display subtitles displayed simultaneously in different locations on the screen. For example, I watch Anime and sometimes signs, written Japanese, and other parts of the screen will be labeled in English. So on a particular scene you'd see 2 subttitles, one for the dialog, and one for whatever sign/text is written in Japanese. The WDTV can not display both.
2. Network connection over Windows 7 is a crapshoot. You gotta fiddle with a bunch of settings through Windows, and then cross yoru fingers to see if the WDTV can see your shares. I prefer accessing my files over Network instead of going through a media server (like windows media center). The WDTV works great if you access your computer through Windows Media Center, but it can have some problems accessing via shared folder.
I can easily look past those 2 things though. Its a great little machine. |
