Considering it's a forum for teachers and teaching, I feel rather alienated to the world of others and their teaching life. I figure this is a way to let me picture other peoples lives at work.

So I'm curious, if it's not illegal (It would be in England) to know about other people's favourite kids. I have a couple that I just have to favour above all others and they make my day go by.

One is a beautiful 7-8 year old who is not only smart but a fast learner, and very much her own character. She doesn't speak like a Korean with those whining upward sustained tones and the like, and she keeps the rest of the class in line. She is my class police officer.

Also, Since I'm not allowed to speak korean, if she finishes earlier than everyone else as she usually does, I let her teach, but not give answers to, the slower kids, as I concentrate on one other kid in particular who is severely below level. She loves it.

Another is 14 who really... is not good at English. She's being moved down from a middle school level back to the level that the first student I mentioned is at. However she speaks pretty darn well and will do so more than any other student I teach. She is actually very funny too, when I understand her. She will never give up trying to make me understand, either. When I call her - we have to phone each for 5 minutes - I always mistakenly get past the 7-8 minute mark and have to rush her off the phone. Great fun. So sad that I won't be teaching her as of next month *sigh*

So yeah they are my two favourites, You?

My school was sold and moved to a new location a little over a month ago. This made some parents nervous and took my homeroom kindy class down from 8 students to 3 (yes 3!) kids only.

As a result, I've been able to develop very close relationships with each of them. I can't pick a favorite. However, I'm teaching them a pop song, and I put other "kid friendly" songs on a CD for us to listen to at lunch and before class. One of the girls has become extremely fond of the song "Jellybones" by The Unicorns. She does a robot dance at the beginning and always shouts "JELLY JELLY JELLY BONES!" I could die, it's so cute. She's Korean age 6, by the way.

Link to song, not my kid (obviously)------> http://youtu.be/3mIZooCIQ3o

I generally have a thing for my bad boys in my other classes. They tend to be extremely intelligent and creative.

My elementary kids, one of whom is super smart and naughty, often finish their lessons early, so I will usually just sit and chat with them about their interests for 5 to 10 minutes at the end of class. I think the conversational practice can be more helpful than the stilted phrases they would learn in an oral language class otherwise. Also, it keeps me up to date on the latest Nintendo news.
