So what exactly is this?
What are you and aren't you allowed to do while you're desk-warming?
Should I be bringing my laptop to surf the web/play games? |

Can't leave the school grounds (without the permission of the VP).
Can't have wild monkey sex in the office.
Beyond that.... sup to your own good judgment and common sense.

my office was on the third floor of the school, and that was up on a hill.... with my laptop, I could pick up a couple open and free wireless connections... good time and place to download a couple of movies it was...
deskwarming is the time the school makes you look like you are working, but doing the things you want and can get away with.
probably leads to alienation and contempt from the native Koreans, but oh well... |

Deskwarming is when you don't have class or anything to do but you still have to stay at school.
My school provides me with a computer, so for me, deskwarming is when I surf the internet and play lots of Solitaire, FreeCell, and Hearts. No one at school really cares what I do as long as I don't leave without permission. In fact, the Korean teachers who share my office sometimes sleep or watch YouTube.
Actually, I'm deskwarming right now |

When I really want to stay off the radar entirely I bring audio books to school. Depends on how laid back your school is. |

I download movies and the occasional TV series at home (speeds are so much faster than at school) and watch them on VLC player on my computer.
I also practice Korean, read books, and play online games.
Always keep a powerpoint presentation open to strategically cover up a movie or whatever at a moment's notice. I've got a nice divider so nobody can sneak up on me. I hear the door open and only keep one earbud in. |

Has anyone ever practiced their Korean with the Korean teachers? I figure it'd be a good way to pass the time. A little quid pro quo - you scratch my back, I scratch yours? |

I practice with a friend, but the Korean teachers really don't want to help with my Korean; they only want help with their English. I've cut down on my "teacher" classes, though, because I'm "so busy" because they're "too busy" to help me. |

Hiding out in the English Zone prep room and taking a nap kills some time, and I've started planning for summer camp, so when I'm in my cubicle, there is work on my screen, but I take lots of breaks, play scrabble on my ipod, check facebook, and keep in touch with people back home. |
