Has anyone who is semi-fluent in Korean (or anyone else) seen this bit of weirdness? A non-Korean team is lined up on the field, and they are wincing and plugging their ears at the noise of a stadium full of chanting, shouting Koreans. The voiceover speaker then says 'Shouting Korea!'
This seems illogical in the context of a World Cup in South Africa this year, in which there isn't going to be any stadium filled entirely with Koreans. What exactly is the message of this ad - that Korea is a winner because it makes the most noise? Lol... |

Seems pretty self explanatory to me. The Korean team is facing foreign team at World Cup. But since there are so many Red Devils, the noise of all their cheering distracts the opposing team and they're intimidated by it. You can think of the ads as basically saying "Feel the power of the Korean fighting spirit". Shouting Korea is another way to say "Hwaiting". |

That was the thinking of the candidates for the recent elections, I believe |

At City Hall station along the stairs there's a group of Koreans shouting on one side. Opposing them is a group of non-Koreans with their fingers in their ears, looking annoyed. Yeah, shout and annoy the rest of the world. Great message. |

I suppose it fits with the importance and face-saving of s/he-who-speaks-the-loudest mentality that is Korea/Confucian. That said, I've got nothing against a bit of hearty nationalism. The excitement over a sporting event that I otherwise wouldn't even know was occurring is a bit catchy. |

Ironically, you have that in common with most of the 'shouting Koreans'. |

Have you also seen the one by (I think) Samsung Insurance where a group of foreign soccer players hear a roar and are knocked over by ferocious white tigers who then transform into Korean soccer players? (animation) My wife and I saw it last night and my wife just burst out laughing and then asked the obvious question; "Who comes up with this stuff?" |

"Shout" is just an English buzzword that someone thought was clever. Replace "shout" with "cheer" and it seems a lot more positive...to native English speakers. To Koreans it just sounds cool. |

So, we have "shout" and the Korean red "devils"...how come no one put those together and made some Korean ripoff of the old Motley Crue song? It would be perfect. |

When I hear the commercial "shout, shout" I think of the Tears for Fears song.
It's not really that bad of a commercial though. I think it's right on par with the other crap that's been released for the World Cup. I didn't even make it through the Shakira World Cup song. |

Its also a play on the acronym "SK" for "South Korea"
If you see the Shouting Korea advertisements, you would see the S and the K is pretty bold and prominent. |
