Hello,

I just got hired from a school in Mokdong. Does anyone know information about this area? Is there an E-Mart near Sinjeongnegeori station? What restaurants and shops are in this area?

You could not find a better area in Yangcheon-Ku. Hobophobic knows the area well., and he'd, I'd reckon, give her a thumbs up as well. Hell, I'd luv to move there right his very second.

I am moving to Mokdong around July 10 and would love some information about the area.

There is a E-Mart and Homeplus near Omokgyo station, which is basically Mokdong. Also a lot of the typical restaurants you find in Korea are there. Hyundai Dept store is also in Omokgyo, its connected to the Omokgyo subway station. Pretty sure there is a Costco also close by, but I've never been so cant be sure

It's nice place. I used to go there for my ice skating lessons, because there is a huuuge ice skating rink there. There are some nice restaurants about and the area feels kind of metropolitan and yet a bit removed from too much hustle and bustle at the same time. If you want to go to places like Itaewon, Hongdae and Gangnam though you'll have to travel about 20-40mins via subway, so it is a little bit removed in that respect. I'd definitely recommend it though. I think it would be a really nice place to live.

Living in Mokdong is great.

You're close enough to Itaewon / Hongdae...but not too close as to spend all your money there. Sinjeongnegori is dirty (dirty can be cool) but you have everything under the sun you need: all services (photo, doctor, dentist, PC, banks, gyms, phone) and a subway station. There's a water park right by the subway station too...a nice place to hang in the summer. There's also a Korean street market up one street from the subway, hard to find but once you do you'll get all your produce there.

And then about 5 min (or less) taxi to the Omokyo station area...you have the big Hyundai department store (with Megabox cinema), a huge Homeplus, and an Emart. This area also has the Edae Mokdong Hospital, a major one for all serious health issues. Between this hospital (Mok-6-dong) and the Omokyo station is the Mokdong stadium. Baseball games in the summer and skating in the winter. (Mokdong stadium is also where US citizens are instructed to go in case of emergency / evacuation order, so there's that..)

And finally...it's a 5 minute taxi to Costco, just over the viaduct in Yangdeongpo-gu. SWEET!

Perfect place to live in Seoul.

i live here. been here 3 weeks so fresh off the boat comparatively.
it's a nice area, as everyones said. it's quite rich and there are a lot of schools, although having said that i don't really see that many other foreigners. if you wants to hang out with co-workers / co-teachers after work then choices seem to be pretty limited but there's a small street with alley pub and places on it that are good.
hongdae is 4 stops and a transfer away so it takes about 15 minutes, which is really good. thats probably my favourite area around here so far, but then i haven't really seen all that much yet.

Mokdong is a big place. Depends on what numbered district of Mokdong.

The area around the Omokyo is my worst nightmare. Huge concrete and glass high-rises that blot out the sun, giant sidewalks that are completely pedestrian unfriendly, no atmosphere or ambiance whatsoever, the Korean alleyway/golmok completely blasted into oblivion in favor of highways and car parks....think artificial, boring Los Angeles = Mokdong central.

Well...Mokdong/Omokgyo are fine.
Emart, Homeplus, Theatres easy access to restaurants...clean...

Sinjeongnegorie...depends on the person.

There is a Homeplus Express, McD's, Pizza Hut and lots of phone places, bars, doctors, dentists, opticians...all crammed in, as well as independent and traditional market areas and a few nice parks....service wise its a nice area. I enjoy it although I call it the dirty noisy negorie. But love it.

The area is slated for redevelopment, and the full moon is everyday lately...but entertaining....lots of harmless nuts and drunks lately as rent is way down and key money is very low. If you're a people watcher then never a dull moment lately...

I can show you the area if you like...which places are friendly and which are not...and so forth.
