In the Korea Times today (July 11, 2010) an article quotes Rep. Choi Young-hee who apparently proposed a bill last year to require criminal records and drug tests be no older than one month at time of application. I am not clear whether that means one month from date of application to the school or date of visa application. The rep. said 274 teachers have been caught for theft, drugs and rape.
I thought drug tests were part of the medical exam after arrival in Korea. That is long after the application process begins. Does the rep. intend for drug tests to be performed in the home country before grant of the visa? |

In reference to the drugs tests, they are referring to bring back the previously dropped requirement of marijuana testing. Implemented in 2007 and dropped shortly thereafter because there werent enough testing facilities in korea for that aspect of the drug testing component of the health checks. As you must know, most, if not all, people who have tried marijuana are also pedophiles.......
Another was the required Vulnerable Sector Search (VSS) for Canadian criminal record checks, also implemented in 2007, and later dropped because the Canadian government doesn't issue VSS for employment outside Canada. Kimmi didnt bother to check that before it became policy and it took a while before they admitted to their f-up. |

Thanks for the reply.
So what is now happening? How long are criminal checks valid NOW?
I'm American so VSS does not apply to me I suppose. |

When they first brought in the new regs (2 yrs ago) it was set at 3 months.
nowadays i see recruiters specifying 6 months.
if they bring it down to 1 month then that is just ridiculous. it takes a month alone for the CBC application to be processed and another month for it to arrive by mail. |

And people of Korean descent or married to a Korean should never be screened for anything because having or mixing with Korean blood = purity. |

| I did my medical over a month ago, I think the due date was the 15th of June. Thats with EPIK anyway. Had to actually have the medical ready at the same time as I sent in the paperwork for a transfer. |
