What are your thoughts? Of course not all Koreans prescribe to the idea of "pure blood." However, it is very acceptable in Korean society to talk about this concept and even write about in newspapers.

My personal thoughts on this are that all it would take is some kind of economic disaster or epidemic and Koreans would actually begin to act on this ideology.

See Germany 1939 for references.

Well swine 'flu, the IMF crisis and the current economical sh!tstorm are three examples that immediately spring to mind. And unless I've been walking around with my eyes closed, no sign of a great purge yet.

Koreans feel secure and happier with the illusion that they are all related, brothers and sisters, a big family that looks out for eachother. A sort of national insurance policy.

Swine flu was hardly a serious epidemic. The current economic down turn still hasnt ended and as of now isnt the economic disaster I had in mind when posting.

Or America up to the 1970's

Germany always gets a bad rap for a period of ten years at the hands of a few powerful lunatics.

No one ever says much about America when there were tens of millions of racist people that would have rather had black people exterminated than share anything, much less marry and have children, with them

Hell even the founding fathers were huge hypocrites saying that "all men are created equal" while they went home to black slaves whom they often beat and raped.

We can only hope the Koreans come out of thier stupor in the next couple decades, but seeing what they have cme through in so short a time, they are doing pretty well so far.

Because you're not Korean and they are racist and think you can't eat kimchi. And they are all Nazis. And Communists.

You're right! Koreans only enslaved each other and beat and raped their own women.

Interestingly, have you ever met a Korean who said, "Yeah, my grandfather was a slave until the Japanese colonization..." or whatever?

It seems that 100% of the population's ancestors were Yangban. I understand there is obvious shame in being the descendant of a slave or a butcher, but it's kind of odd that everyone is a yangban.

Maybe all the slave descendants were wiped out in the Korean war? (poor people end up in armies a lot more often than wealthy).

My point being that there are many cultures that have made racism and discrimination a habit, and it is culturally entrenched.
