Hi everyone. My parents are visiting here in a couple of weeks for one weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) and I've run into a small problem. I have made a schedule of plans. I have Friday covered with dinner and Namsan, showing them my apartment and school during the day Saturday, and going to the fortress in Suwon on Sunday. What I can't figure out is what to do with them Saturday night... We are meeting up with my friends to eat until about 8pm so that leaves a baseball game out of the picture. I have thought about taking them to Hongdae or Itaewon but the thing is that that is mostly all partying which is something they won't be too interested in. Not to mention that I don't want them to associate me with the rest of you drunks (although I enjoy the beer most times). Maybe coex mall? Isn't there an aquarium there? I'm drawing blanks! Can't believe it. Thanks.

I think it's a better idea to show them some small Korean town. But I guess you're short on time. Maybe Incheon's Chinatown, or just let them go shopping in Myeongdong, or show them touristy Insadong, the war museum in Itaewon, or a half-day DMZ tour and then show them your apartment and school in the afternoon and then take them to Insadong or Myeongdong.

Late afternoon/evening walking around Anguk station (Gyeongbokgung, Bukchon village, Samcheong-dong, etc.)

COEX and the entire Samseong area seems really boring for Western tourists. Bongeunsa is worth seeing though.

Split them up, and let them enjoy Korea on their own terms.

For mom, the National Museum would be a good immersion in the culture of the Land of the Morning Calm! Smile

And dad could go to Itaewon for a while...

If he has a military past, he may enjoy the experience.... there's a few ways he may enjoy the exp, actually... Wink

I suggest giving them a subway map and let them wander around. Or just go to Coex mall and hang out.

Yeah I thought about Chinatown and I think I'll give that as an option to them. The only thing is they will be coming to Korea from China so they might see a Chinatown in Korea as a bad option since they just came from China.

Yeah a mall! Lol. Yeah, a pretty lame idea. I really want to take them somewhere with a antique/goods market if I could.

If they're into shows you could take them to see Nanta (cooking) or Jump (martial arts)

I would suggest one of the night markets... either Namdaemun or Dongdaemun. My friends parents were in Seoul for a week and they loved wandering through Namdaemun and looking at everything there was to offer and haggling for deals. Insadong is a thought as well.

If they don't do a DMZ tour, they are really missing out on a big piece of history.
