Welcome Bianca. I was expecting a thread about how you might be saying, "hi," about 399 more times a day than you'd like as if you were a celebrity. In a large Korean public school, you will be saying, "hi and hello," about a few hundred times a day. It comes with the territory. Welcome to the land where kids absolutely love, "Hello," and, "Hi." Just say with hand waving until it feels like it could drop off and your voices goes out, "Hi Korea!!! Hi Seoul!!!" Or, "Hi, (city you teach in)" Wash and repeat as many times as necessary. |

a good trick after waving a few thousand times is to throw scissors as they wave.... then shriek "Scissors beat paper! I win!!! I genius!!!" |

remember to take everything you read here with a grain of salt. Some people come here just to complain. Korea is a good as you make it, aside from a thieving hagwon director, nothing here is really that tough. Make some friends, explore the city and country, don't seclude yourself to only foreigner areas and above all else, have flexibility, patience and a sense of humor and you will have a great time |

I'd ignore most things ESLAsia says. He hasn't even been here a year and is bitter and twisted already. |

The trollish worms and bugs are coming out of the woodwork to play. There are a few trolls working the boards, but only a couple because many got booted off by MODS. As for being twisted, I take that as insult from an immature pest. MOD's can we get some help in here? Bitter? I am bitter about my living and working condition to a certain extent. I would venture to guess the trolls are too, but are too proud to admit it. |

Learn survival Korean. Try foods other than McDonald's and Fried Chicken. Don't take notice of all the expert advice on all the movie star esl teachers that make 7 mil a month and were a ranger/doctor/lawyer/model back home. Keep active and healthy. Don't take any ddong from your employer as far as payment, apartment, contract and scheduling is concerned. Don't take Korean abrasiveness to heart. |

I've got my kid's doing the raised eyebrow, cool hi , some of my teachers too Whats the problem with saying Hi anyway...
Just stay away from the negative teachers here, they're easy to spot... surround yourself with like minded positive people and you'll be sweet. |
