|
|
Hi guys,
Myself and my partner are currently seeking jobs in public schools in Busan and it will be our first time to South Korea. We don't mind working in different public schools, although we are keen on living together. We want to work in public schools as the work hours are usually between 8-6 and you get more holidays plus a bit more stability.
We have all our documents ready to apply for our visa, and depart from Britain, although we want to ensure we are applying to reportable schools and through reportable agencies.
Does anyone have any advice on agencies or public schools in which we could apply to in Busan or surrounding areas?
Also, any advice relating to this matter would be much appreciated!
Cheers! |

First of all, you two are kind of late to be applying for Public School positions. You can still try however.
Second, Busan is in high demand for placements so you may have trouble findinf work for a September start there.
It is already July....you may have missed the PS employment window or at least the peak hiring period.
Still, check out recruiters online, I think Korvia places for public schools. |

LOL...
Haven't found the stickies or FAQs yet huh?
Recruiter: if you are applying to one of the government programs it really doesn't matter. If you are concerned then go direct to EPIK via their website or the Korean consulate/embassy closest to you.
Be advised that unless you are married they will NOT let you share "couples" accommodation. You will both get singles rooms (whether you use them or not).
Busan is the 2nd most applied for city in Korea. Competition will be stiff. Hope you have something more than just a BA and fresh face to offer or they will be sending you out into some rural area.

We applied to EPIK through Reach to Teach in March, although they emailed at the end of May and said they did not have time to get through our application and suggested we applied direct to EPIK, which we did but got no reply! |

EPIK hiring is over-- with exception to Seoul... which will probably be over any day, if it isn't already. You wont be allowed to send in an application for either, though, if you haven't done it already and been interviewed/accepted. That window is closed. They are only working with the pool of applicants they generated, they are no longer adding to that pool.
Your best bet is to look at the "Jobs" tab here on Dave's and try not to be too picky. Both of you in a public school position in Busan isn't going to happen most likely, unless you do go through EPIK. You may have to wait until next Spring placement, and apply for EPIK the second the hiring window opens later this year. Even then the chances aren't very good, just better.
Maybe you should consider private schools with multiple positions available. |

Morticae is right.
You two will need to expand your job search to Hakwons. |

Pretty much over but there may still be late openings and there are always schools that go outside of EPIK/GEPIK/etc. when they don't get a NET from the "lottery assignment" of new teachers to the schools.
to the OP: Don't give up hope on a public school (there are always openings somewhere) but the chances of a PS position in Busan for the fall term are slim-to-none for the fall term.
