Nha Trang and the surrounding area is the popular spot to go for beaches in Vietnam. |

The beaches around Nha Trang are beautiful.
Also, the beach near Hoi An was amazing. It's a few kilometers from the main center of Hoi An. You can rent a bike to head out there. |

I was there in 2004 and I'd be happy to answer any questions you might have. My info might be somewhat outdated though. |

I stayed at the Hoi An Beach Resort for a few days...really relaxing atmosphere, and there is a free shuttle into the town if you want to go shopping, go out drinking or have a nice dinner at night. The breakfast buffet is really amazing too. If you stayed there I would recommend a Riverview room, the ones towards the beach have a road between the resort and the beach. |

I know of no sandy beaches near Hanoi. Halong Bay is fun, although I thought Tam Coc was a more interesting place.
Hoi An is an overnight trip from Hanoi. Great little beach nearby, lots of seafood restaurants, easily accessible on a rented motorbike. A cheap place to have custom clothes tailored.
I was at China beach, near Da Nang. It was a fair beach but not much action and few amenities. I did not find Da Nang itself very interesting.
Nha Trang is probably the most developed beach town with lots of restaurants and a long, sandy beach, but it's far-- two nights on the train and getting close to Saigon. |

We're still consdering it. If we do it, we'll fly to Ho Chi Minh and take another short flight to Nha Trang. |

Yeah, it was about a day's drive from Saigon when I was there in 2003 but they were also in the midst of totally fixing up the highway, so it probably is more reasonable now. |
