I just want to be clear on the terminology.

I got my job in Jeollabuk-do through a recruiter, and have been here almost a month.

The notice of appointment and contract both say English Program In Jeollabuk-do.

That would be EPIJ. Not EPIK.

People ask me if I work for EPIK. Do I? Or do I not? What's the proper response?

Strictly speaking, shall we say I do work for EPIK, but it's administered at the provincial level?

Those are my questions. The rest (below) is extra.

My school is in a rural area.

In my second day here, I was driven about 45 minutes away to the Jeollabuk-do Office of Education in Jeonju to sign two additional originals of my contract (and show my original college diploma).

I had signed the very first original contract in the USA but sent it to the consulate along with my visa application and other documents in May (keeping scans of that first original contract) and the contract was not returned. What I got back (while I was still in the USA) was 1. my passport with the visa and 2. the original notice of appointment.

Since I started after the middle of the semester, I did not participate in the original orientation, but it sounds like there are plans for me to attend something for one day in early July (maybe an orientation) at the office in Jeonju. My co-teacher, who has been managing the bureaucratic part, will attend the same day.

yeah, they like to do things their own way in Jeollabuk do.

have you been told yet how good the food is there? Laughing if not, don't worry, they will soon enough!

it really is, actually. my first year was there and afterwards, couldn't eat the K food in Seoul because it really is just so much better in Jeonju!

OK. I'll bite.

Are there any special places that you'd recommend to experience these Korean gastronomic delights?

You are employed by the city office of education (school district) where you work. You work under the umbrella of the provincial office of education (POE) who is under supervision and regulation of the national office of education.

You may have been recruited by NIIED, EPIK or one of it's alter-egos, and they will act as your liason should there be problems with your school not living up to the contract but you are employed by your school district (and at the lowest level - your school).

Bottom line - You work for XYZ school district in Jeollabuk-do.

well there is this extraordinarily incredible all-vegetarian restaurant just outside Jeonju, outside the samseondong area which is in wansan gu - make sure you specify wansan gu when asking -

the restaurant is out in the countryside a bit - it's a buffet style, about 8000 a person, all you can eat - most everything is tofu-based, plus fruits, veges, etc. even the monks come down from the mountains nearby to eat there. it's a large place and is packed on Sunday afternoons.

actually all along the same road there's some great places. you can ask about it, I'm sure someone can tell you.

I have K friends out there and they always take me to the most incredible restaurants, some are very traditional and older, even very small but the food is great. some are so popular you actually need a reservation just for lunch.

I think you can't go wrong if you ask someone from Jeonju to show you a restaurant that is good.

downtown has lots of places, which is where you'll be going for nightlife. again, you'll have to ask around, sorry, don't know specific names, just what they look like. Laughing

also doekjin gu is pretty good with some foreign restaurants - that's over in the university area - again - just ask around.

Actually, the question is not "who" do you work for, but for whom do you work?

I don't like the Grammar Police. They're as useful as the Religious Police in Saudi Arabia.
