|

I have this really frustrating, monthly-recurring issue... pertaining to paying bills.
It seems impossible to pay an OCR bill in a regular ATM, since there doesn't seem to be any payment account information on the bill. The problem is that I work during the entirety of the bank hours, and the bill pay (OCR-reading) ATM is only open during business hours (WTF Korea!?). I hate taking time off work to go to the bank, but that's what usually happens.
Is there any way to pay it online so I don't have to take time off work? |

Can you not go during lunch hour?
What bank do you go to?
Most ATM machines (which are open until around 10-11 PM) have a bill-paying option.

Nonghyup is my bank. I suppose I could go during lunch. I just hate asking them if I can do it. |

Nonghyup has an English option for its ATMs. Just find out what bank you have to pay the bill to (ask your co-teacher/handler) and transfer money directly from your bank account to that one. There should be an account number on the bill somewhere (your handler should be able to ID it.)
Just go to the ATM after work and get the English option. Press the TRANSFER button and you will get a list of banks with numbers next to them. Type the number of the bank you have to send the money to.
Then type in the account number on the bill in the appropriate box and you should be good to go (just follow the prompts.) |

Please read the original post. There is no account information on the OCR bill for the recipient. |

How are you supposed to pay the bill? There are no numbers anywhere on the bill other than the amount that you own?
I'd ask a friendly co-teacher or your handler about this then. Point out that you have no account information on the bill. |

You pay the bill by going to one of the OCR ATMs when the bank is open. The machine reads the slip and you pay the bill on the machine. |

Heh, that must have changed from back in the day then. I guess lunch hour is your only option. |

Lunchtime. Just say "I want a kimbap today. It's my taste today." and hop into a taxi and pay your bill. Come back with a kimbap.
It's what I do most of the time. |

As luck has it, the head teacher's assistant, who works at the desk next to me, saw me pawing through my bills just now. He showed me that the account numbers are, in fact on the OCR bills. Sigh.
Thanks for your help in any case! |

I'm unsure from your posting, but does it have a bar code? If it does, you can pay it at any GS25, Family Mart, etc. |

One has a barcode, the other doesn't. |

I believe you can pay almost any mailed bill online. It's just a matter of figuring out how. Without actually seeing the bill I'm very little help though. |

Usually they give you a number of different bank account numbers to choose from on the OCR bills. If you can read a bit of Korean (there's really no excuse for not being able to), you can easily pick out Kookmin, Woori, Hana, Shinhan and the various other bank names with numbers beside them. Not that hard. |

Just keep them in an envelope and don't paw through them at work. Take your bag and say you're going for a kimbap and you'll be back soon. Hop in a taxi and go to the bank to pay it at the proper machine. Hopefully, there's a branch near your school. Seriously, this is what I do once a month. |
