"The financial services commission has said it would allow the use of either the original security software or equivalents that are as good or better."
Don't hold your breath for internet services to change that fast.

It shocks me how other nations use Perl/php and other coding internet languages for banking and shopping software and yet Korea uses Microsoft with all its flaws "because that's what Koreans like"
This news is probably due to the rise in iPhone usage (read: iPhone not Mac). Korea is making an effort to catch up with the rest of Earth.
@ttompatz everything from Java - Python > ActiveX, but since it isn't used, it wont be noticed |

I don't see how this is all that positive. So now instead of having to download Active X we'll have to download a billion different proprietary security systems, programs, etc for each bank and company. Active X reliance is a nuisance but so is how all the sites are programmed for IE. |

I expect that each site will have its security built into the site like every site that isn't Korean already does. At least, that is what I hope. |

To put it simply, it's using standard security features built into modern browsers rather using (downloading each time) a variety of active-x plugins installed into Internet Explorer to provide this security. The end-user experience should be much simpler.
That said there are a lot of companies (including the gov't) that would stand to lose a lot of money if this becomes reality. Nevermind security, there's also credit card and personal certificate validation software, anti--virus/keylogging software vendors, etc that have their whole IP in activeX components..
Like others have said, this is merely the start of the very slow transition phase. |

The day I stop getting the public-school-activeX-website-tracking-error-in-Chrome crap every Monday morning I'll consider it dead. |

Fantastic! I wonder if they'll also lift the secret government regulation that dictates that all Koreans will use and enjoy only Windows XP. |
