I recently bought a new Playstation 2 in Korea. The model is 50005. I need to get a mod chip to play all region DVDS as well as games from other countries. The guy at Yong-san did'nt want to risk putting a mod chip in it as he reckoned it was too much of a gamble. If anyone knows what do do I would appreciate an email! Word!

All you have to do is remove the thermo-d casing, pull out the green and red wires and reverse them, then take out the post-Tx3 chip and turn it around. After that it's just a matter of removing the internal drive and reconfiguring it to play modded games using the built in micro computer and foiler interface.

Hope this helps.

Are you talking about the new model with the built-in network port?

Yes, brand new. It has the network ports... Is it possible to get the mod chip inserted?

This is a question that calls for a Gord response, but FWIW I asked this question to a mod chip installer at Yongsan a couple of weeks back and he allowed as has the "failure rate" for modding a 5**** model PS2 is 8%.

It sounds worth the risk, as I have so many titles that won't play!

I'd like to know as well, since I've been contemplating getting one of the new models.

Has anyone seen a vendor that sells pre-modded new models?

I had a friend call one of the salesman in Yong-san. They have a new chip that is for the new model PS2, however it is causing the games to freeze. His advice was to call back in a month. I heard there a non chip solution. Does anybody know of this?
