We all know that teaching in a Hagwan can be stressful.

My questions are, does Korean health coverage cover mental health? Can a stressed out Canadian teacher qualify for some sort or counselling?

Does a standard contract leave room for stress leave? (My contract doesn't say anything about stress) but I thought somebody here might now something.

Is there anything I can do? Who can help?

Thanks. I appreciate your responses.

In a nutshell no. Don't think mental health is even recognised here, and getting time off from your hoggie is slim to none, and slim is out of town!!
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news! Sad Sad

진로 provides what you need. It can be found in a green bottle in any 수퍼.

Just show up at your nearest hospital with an insurance card and ask to speak to a psychiatrist. Doctors visits are cheap. Psych meds are not so cheap, but the combined cost of them is still way less than it would be in the U.S.

I'm pretty sure to get a visa you had to state you have no mental health problems. I sense BIG problems if your job gets this information (which no doubt they will as there are no secrets)

No, actually there are plenty of doctors that are 100% confidential. Go to a doctor out of your own city or if you live in Seoul, go across town. Itaewon is a good place to start.

Don't mention anything to your coworkers or boss and they will never know. Neither will immigration unless YOU tell them. Medical information IS private in Korea if you do things right.

Mental health problems can occur to anyone at anytime. And i can certainly sympathise with anyone working in the hagwon despite the increase in money.

As for the original question. I would consider leaving your contract under a mutual agreement and apply for public school. If your worried about a ref fear not, you can simply enroll for a tefl course that will have you on the G level salary right away. You may even be able to come to an agreement with your current boss for a ref. Though i'd never trust those sods ever again.
