The Seoul Jeonsa (warriors) football team (american football) has been allowed to enter the Korean National Football League. The KNFL is comprised of 6 teams; The Seoul Vikings, ADT Caps (Seoul), 2 Daegu teams, and 2 Busan teams. These teams consist of mostly Korean players, with a few foreigners. In recent years there has been a rule allowing only 3 foreign players on the field at one time.
However over the past spring, a few Canadians and Americans who had previously played for the Seoul Vikings, got together to form their own team. Having been frustrated by some of the differences between Korean coaching style and practices VS the way it is back home, the only solution was to do it themselves.
Intially they hadn't expected to be admitted into the league and planned on simply playing the KNFL teams in exhibition scrimmages as well as travelling to Japan for some tougher competition. However, a few weeks ago some of the Jeonsa members attended a football game at Korea University. The game was between the Korean national football team (recently assembled in preparation for the upcoming football "world championships") VS Waseda University from Tokyo. Waseda won 34-7. Seemingly apparent that the Koreans need a higher level of competition in order to improve, the Seoul Warriors were allowed into the league at a meeting on July 3rd. The Warriors welcome the chance to help develop the game in Korea, and intend on participating in coaching clinics for university players.

For more information on the Seoul Warriors, see this month's issue of GROOVE magazine.
