Hey Everyone,
I am thinking of going home for Christmas this year and I am wondering about flying standby. (home is in Vancouver Canada). Does anyone have any experience with this?
I remember when I lived here before, I flew home on Christmas day and the flight was not full. I am wondering if this might happen again??? It was definitely cheaper to fly on Christmas day...not sure why, but it was.
Any thoughts would be great. Thanks |

I knew a guy who did that several times with success BUT it is a risk and I highly doubt any plane going to Canada will not be full around Xmas. |

It's been decades since flying standby was an effective way of travelling cheaply. Most airlines don't even allow it any more. |

The flights around Christmas are usually not full going TO Korea, but VERY FULL flying out. So you wouldn't have a problem one way, but the opposite would be an issue. |

I hear that even if the plane is half empty, Air France doesn't not allow a passenger to board if he or she didn't check in within 90 minutes of departure. So I guess standy wouldn't fly with them, either.
I can also see standby being a security risk, too. |

There is no standby after 9/11 for international travel.
