Hey Everyone,

I am thinking of going home for Christmas this year and I am wondering about flying standby. (home is in Vancouver Canada). Does anyone have any experience with this?

I remember when I lived here before, I flew home on Christmas day and the flight was not full. I am wondering if this might happen again??? It was definitely cheaper to fly on Christmas day...not sure why, but it was.

Any thoughts would be great. Thanks

I knew a guy who did that several times with success BUT it is a risk and I highly doubt any plane going to Canada will not be full around Xmas.

It's been decades since flying standby was an effective way of travelling cheaply. Most airlines don't even allow it any more.

The flights around Christmas are usually not full going TO Korea, but VERY FULL flying out. So you wouldn't have a problem one way, but the opposite would be an issue.

I hear that even if the plane is half empty, Air France doesn't not allow a passenger to board if he or she didn't check in within 90 minutes of departure. So I guess standy wouldn't fly with them, either.

I can also see standby being a security risk, too.

There is no standby after 9/11 for international travel.
