I'm going to China in August for 2 weeks (my first visit there). Doing the Beijing, Xi'an, Shanghai triangle and i was wondering if there were any decent beaches along the coast between shanghai and beijing?
Also, anyone been to the world expo yet? What's some must see/do things there? |

Hang out at the beach, but don't swim in China! People hork and spit - which I'd rather not see and hear... Right before the Beijing Summer Olympics, Qingdao - which is renown throughout the country for having the cleaniest and most scenic beaches - had one of the worst cases of algae. For weeks, the water glowed a bright, florescent green. It took both military and volunteer civilian power several weeks to clear up the disaster. You could try Hainan Island, but from other travellers' online accounts of their experiences, many have mentioned rats running amok throughtout the streets. Aside from these accounts, China was an unforgettable adventure for me. I'll always miss the times and experiences I shared with other people and would do it over again if I could. |

Hainan is the only place I've been in China with a a beach that I was ever comfortable swimming. Too much going on off the coast where you're headed to want to chance swimming in a pile of garbage. |

Hi I was wondering which agent you went with? My friends and I are also planning for Beijing and Shanghai. Are you booked on a package deal? |

I second Hainan. Sanya beach was great. I don't know how much you are looking to pay, but I am pretty sure we paid about $100 per night for an amazing hotel right on the beach with a sea-view room.
There weren't a lot of variety of restaurants though. Although the ones we did go to were good and not too expensive. I can ask the wife the name of the hotel later if you are interested. Be prepared to take taxis as this beach is quite far from town. |

I booked directly with the airlines. I booked a ticket with East China Air to beijing and booked a return ticket with South China Air from shanghai back to incheon. Total was about 440,000 won. You can use any travel agency to get your chinese visa... if you are American, the price is 180,000-200,000 won now. |

Qingdao has nice beaches. Number 4 beach (Shilaoren is nicer), Number 2 beach is nice. Near Number 1 is the sailing club where a lot of foreigners hang out. Ifyou take the bus further out of town you can get to Shazikou beach which has a lot of nice seafood restaurants with nice balconies. The beaches get reasonably packed in the summer mind. QD is really easy to get to from Beijing. |
