Just what we all needed.

Another foreign teacher in Daegu caught "touching up his students".

The media is going to go rampant with this - and foreign teachers will be "generalized" again to be all "pedo......."

(In Korean)

but thanks for Marmots hole for the translation -

A native English teacher in his 50′s has already resigned and left for Japan before the police could prevent his departure 2.5 hours late! Two boys in 6th grade say that the teacher locked the door during school time and took their clothes off and touched them. There have been previous incidents when other children came forward and told their home room teacher that he had put them on his lap and put his hands down their shorts, but the English teacher denied it.

The strangest thing about this, is that there had been "previous incidents", but because the teacher denied it, he was still left alone to lock the children in his classroom and strip them off and continue doing what he wanted to with the boys.

expect more stares on subways, buses and when walking to your school down the footpath.

Expect more Korean teachers to watch you carefully when you need to go to the bathroom.

People will believe what they want to believe.

This won't change anyone's minds, just make the xenophobes more boldly vocal.

Too bad he left before they could get him and investigate this properly. So now the situation is he is considered guilty because he ran. Maybe he was (sure looks that way) but maybe he was not (loks unlikely).

Too bad about the fact some of the media will run with this and make it bigger than it really is.

The fact the teacher was not punished at first means his poor school trusted him and he denied what happened.

Obviously the visa regs didn't keep him out...he probably got a clean CBC from a different state.

Indeed junior....

Then again visa regs like those are meant to deter..in essence they accept some people like that teacher will make it to Korea undetected but that the regs will discourage a great many more like him.

Same deal with airport security: deterence.

You can never stop or catch everyone. You can however set up systems and regulations that may discourage some people from trying...in that sense you gain something.
