Hello, I was surfing the web when I discovered www.talk.go.kr. It says on the site that people with a 2 year degree can apply. I am interested in the 6 month option. On the medical questionnaire, there is this question: "Have you suffered from depression?" I have not, so that in itself is not the issue. But, I was telling someone about my idea to go to Korea, and he said, "Make sure you know what you're getting into." He knew someone whose daughter spent a year in Japan, and she had never had depression, but when she came back, she did. They feel like it was because of culture shock, and not having anyone to talk to in English.

If you get placed via a program like this in some remote country village, is this a potential issue, does anyone know?

Thanks, Roanoke

It can be an issue. But very unlikely at all in 6 months. You will still be bright-eyed and "wow!" for most of your time here. It's called the "honeymoon" stage.

Also, having lived in rural Japan for 2 years I can tell you it's far more remote and isolated than Korea.

pay is much lower and you don't get the rural bonus most 1 yr contract get between 100,000-200,000 a month. On the plus side you work slightly less hours than 1 yr contracts. But for the most part you do the same thing. I don't know if you have a CT though

And yes its rural, I know a girl that works out on one. She takes a express bus to seoul on the weekends.

You'll probably work multiple very rural and very small schools. However, in many cases you're home will be in the main town which can be pretty large with over 100,000 people.

I thrived THRIVED in a rural ESL job.
It's such a different, surprising, odd, interesting, quirky, puzzling place that I was always wide eyed or head shaking, never ever bored.
I'd be depressed TO BE BACK in my mundane predictable hometown.
