|
|
I've seen plenty of those dudes in itaewon try to sell me a tailored leather jacket....how about a custom made wallet from a tailor here?
Any idea about the cost or if tailors will do it.
I'm looking at Ostrich skin or possible something more exotic(alligator?). |

There simply must be a better way to put your hard earned money to use than buying a custom made ostrich skin wallet. |

But where will I put my hard earned money?!?!
Besides, ostrich skin is one of toughest leathers out there, it will outlast you and last a hell of lot longer than any department store wallet. Even my friend's Gucci wallets are rough and worn after a few years.
It's a fairly decent investment unless I lose it |

Make a duct tape wallet. Tough as, and far better cost to wear ratio than any exotic hides.
Or admit you're really not doing it for the soundness of the investment. |

But the cost to replace many times far outweighs buying one or two made in a stronger material.

You can buy a pre-made one in Itaewon, but it costs a bundle compared to the west. I find it strange because we're so close to China. I found some cheapo eel skin ones to hold me over until my trip home last month and was able to bring one of my favorite alligator ones back with me. I'd come here, thinking that leather would be plentiful. Live and learn. <<shrugs>> |

Really? I'm visiting America soon, I guess I'll buy one there.
You seem to know more about this I do....any good websites or stores that carry that kinda stuff and won't cost me $400+ for a wallet or other leather goods.
Ostrich skin wallet on google seems point me to all sorts of poorly made sites offering me fake looking crap.
Or maybe I should have it made when I visit the phillipines in September. |

If you're going to the states soon, get it there. You may find a nice one in the Phillipines (I haven't been there yet, so couldn't say), so then you'd have 2. It's always good to have a spare.
If you don't care about getting some knee-jerk designer name, but are willing to spend around $40-$75, you should check out a department store sale. Another great place would be an old-fashioned leather goods store. I found a fantastic hand-made bag (made IN STORE) for under $100 and it's lasted around a decade. |

I don't know man....I bought this leather wallet about 3 years ago at the Nordstrom Rack for $10 and it's still going strong. I would imagine that it will do another 2 years before I need a new one....and no, there's no duct tape on it. When it starts to fall apart I will replace it. Even if you get 10 years out of a $100 wallet your extra mileage still doesn't compute. I surely hope that you're not talking about spending more than $100 |

It's his money. Let him spend it how he wants.
I'm always irked by those on this board that have no problem with people who use their money to drink excessively, frequent prostitutes, use drugs, etc., yet get all upset with those that want something nice in life. |

Well sure, you can definitely find a cheaper one. I got this in green a few years ago at Nordstrom or Fortunoff (I don't recall which) for $35. It cost more at the time (the list price was $70 but it was on sale for 50% off), but now you can order it online for the same price as I paid!

The "leave him alone" part of your post is clearly valid....I am more than aware of the fact that it is rude to butt into his financial affairs. First off, I don't care, this is a stupid internet message board where people stay stupid things all day long as a means of breaking the tedium. Second of all, I am half joking, so just chill out. I am not going to show up at Ukon's house and physically detain him, hence preventing him from wasting money on an expensive wallet. I am also not going to smash the girl's $400 sunglasses off her face because I think that they were a waste of money. I would like to take a small dump, however, in the coin purse that someone was selling a while back because they bought this $100+ coin purse for their girlfriend and the bitch said she didn't like it because it didn't match her $500 bag.....I'd love to take a small dump in the coin purse and a big dump in the bag....but Ukon, I won't prevent him from getting his wallet.
BUT...where did I say anything about drinking, drugs, and prostitutes? I rarely drink, have never been to a prostitute in my life, and drugs? Who buys drugs in Korea? |
