I just began teaching this week but it looks like Ill have a vacation at the end of the month.

I might not have my ARC before my week vacation in Taiwan so I am wondering if I am I allowed to leave the country and return with just my passport and re-entry permit?

If anyone has any experience with this your advice would be greatly appreciated!

You can't get a re-entry permit without an ARC so I am not sure what you meant.

You CAN get them at the same time (re-entry permit and ARC). IF you beg nicely AND can show your exit ticket (going abroad) when you apply for your ARC they CAN expedite your application and in fact get it done while you wait.

Some other possibilities since your information was minimal at best:

IF you are American AND have a multi entry visa then yes, you can leave and return without an ARC (provided you are less than 90 days from original entry to current entry).

IF you had an OLD re-entry permit and did an extension or transfer of your visa then your re-entry privilege does NOT carry over into the extended period and leaving the country without a new re-entry permit will void your work visa.

I experienced this exact problem last month! got it figured out after A LOT of explaining/arguing etc. Wish my uni and/or immigration would have said something to me when they extended my visa (I was told I didn't need a new visa by my uni and by immigration). My bad for not being able to ask all the right questions in the format that my Uni and Immi could understand.

got it all cleared up but what a fiasco. Oh well, live and learn.
