Vietnam Immigration offers visa on arrival for those applicants that travel by air to Vietnam. So, if you go by air, the easiest and most simple way is to apply for visa on arrival (visa to be picked up at the arrival airport in Vietnam)!

What you need to do is very simple as follows:

-You apply online at Visa to Vietnam
-Settle the payment (service fee) as per instructions.

- Receive your visa approval letter after 1 working day (urgent service), and 2 or 3 working days (normal service) via email.

- You print the letter out and bring it together with your photos + passport +some dollars pay the Vietnam Immigration Officer to get your visa stamped in arrival airport in Vietnam and pick up your visa there.

And now, you are ready to enter Vietnam!

There are two kinds of fees: service fee and stamping fee.

- Service fee: the fee is paid ONLINE to proceed the visa for you.
- Stamping fee: For getting your visa stamped at VIETNAM airport, pay directly at the Vietnam airports for the Immigration officers by cash (in USD) at immigration Desk.

- NORMAL PROCESSING service fee: 2-3 working days
- URGENT PROCESSING service fee: 1 working day (plus 10 USD/pax).

I just learned something. You can get a VOA by applying online ahead of time. This seems much easier than using a consulate as long as the traveler doesn't meet incompetency at airport immigration or when checking in with the airline to fly there. "Why you have no visa stamp before? You know Vietnam require you have visa?"

Hey Vietnam, why not make things easier on travelers and just let everyone get a Visa on arrival. Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Indonesia, etc all do that. What makes you so special that I need advanced permission to get in??

As other categories of visas, rather than citizens of countries having name in the list of bilateral consular agreements with our country, all citizens must have Vietnamese entry visa. In particular, foreigners are citizens of these below countries who can visit Vietnam without an entry visa.

Firstly, citizens of Thailand, Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Myanmar, Cambodia, Brunei and Laos don�t require Vietnam entry visa (no more than 1 month).
Secondly, Citizens of Thailand, Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Myanmar, Cambodia, Brunei and Laos don�t require Vietnam entry visa (no more than 1 month).
Thirdly, Citizens of France holding valid diplomatic or official passports don�t require Vietnam entry visa (no more than 3 months or several visits within 6 months).
Fourthly, Vietnamese overseas if holding Vietnam Visa Exemption certificate doesn�t require Vietnam entry visa (no more than 3 months).
