|

| Years back I was told by my ENT that I have a deviated septum. At that time I couldn't afford surgery and really still can't now. I'm looking into if it would be any cheaper to have the surgery done in Korea. Has anyone looked into plastic surgery in Korea? Can they do good work? I'm interested in a reference. Thanks. |

I had my deviated septum fixed about 7-8 years ago in the US...ironically the surgeon never sent me a bill so it ended up being free...I had insurance and all but I should have still had a hefty bill for all the post-op visits and whatnot....who knows what happened? They never billed me and my insurance company never asked for anything.
Anyhow...I can tell you from experience that this is a pretty awful and traumatic surgery (assuming you'd be getting the same thing done) and I'd much rather have it done at home than have to deal with the Korean medical system. They won't give you the right pain meds and will have zero sympathy for your pain in the post-op. Now...waiting to do it at home might not be a feasible option for you, but I just wanted to give you the heads up that this is not a pleasant surgery.
All in all I am glad that I got it done....I think that I do get far fewer sinus infections now and that the infections go away more quickly when I do get sick....and I think that I snore less and do breathe a little bit better....BUT, I would say that the positive effects of the surgery diminished greatly after a couple years. The septum remains fixed, but a lot of the other stuff they fixed while in there with my sinuses has returned to the way it was. The sinus issues may/may not relate to you as I don't know what your exact condition is.
By the way....a deviated septum is not plastic surgery and a plastic surgeon will not be able to fix that for you. Nothing will change about the way you look after your septum is straightened. |

Seconded. They do immaculate surgery here at samsung hospital in seoul, but they gave me tylenol er for the post op when it was easily in the vicodin area of pain. |

| Wow that sounds terrible. Welp I guess I'll be waiting to deal with it in the US. |

I got a 50% discount when they dropped a lamp onto my head. The work was still excellent, but that made me a little scared. |

Interesting because I went to an ENT at St. Mary's Hospital in Gangnam and was getting info for correcting my deviated septum as well.
The doc said that with Korean health insurance it would be around 1 mil.
I've been to that hospital a few times and like it. I've also checked out Asan Hospital near Jamsil and it's pretty top notch (both are quite famous in Korea).
@Slowmotion-what kind of discount can you get and what is this place exactly? |
