Is it really impossible to find a school that will allow me to have my black lab? I simply can't leave him behind, but according to a few recruiters its impossible or "Not likely if your not willing to teacher kinder". I have taught theatre for five years to high school students...I don't mind the little ones but I do not want to teacher kinder...I wouldnt even know how to deal with ones that small. I need advice on this, speak up pet lovers I know some of you must have pets.

Why bother telling them? As long as the dog doesn't destroy the apartment you are in, you should be alright. Just remember, a walk in the park WILL scare koreans. Heck they're scared of baby kittens.

Right...so I arrive...they come pick me up at the airport...see the dog...and wont even let me get in their car or tell me I can't live in my apartment with a dog...that would be my luck.

Yes there are some schools that will not allow you to bring your dog. This is especially due to the housing provided - small studios in big cities are expensive, crowded, you'll disturb the neighbors and maybe the dog will wreck the small place when confined all day.

Are you willing to work outside of Seoul? You'll need a place with room for your dog. There are even schools where the managers or owners love dogs and will encourage you to bring yours. You need to look for a job that accepts your dog up front, don't hide it, and provides decent sized housing, maybe a 2 or 3 bedroom apartment. Such places can be found.

Why not post your resume, and your wishes, nicely written on the Dave's job resume board, or link your resume to this thread?

Good luck.

I have posted it a few times typically putting "Experianced teacher searching for Employment in South Korea *Must be Dog Friendly

Still no intelligent responses, just recruiters that send the same response every time I post anything...even when I am allready registered on their websites. I actually prefer to work away from Soul. I would rather be in a rural area, which I also mention whenver speaking to recruiters.

My dog is really pretty good about chilling out in my apartment (we live in a one bedroom right now and have lived in smaller.) Thanks for the vote of support. There has to be something out there right?

You could look into having someone ship your dog to Korea after you've arrived.

don't they quarantine animals for a while before allowing them into the country? if that is the case then you can go back and pick him up later and they won't ever know.

idk, that is just something i read last week and I don't know the specifics.

I went through a recruiter. After she found some jobs, I told her that I had a 35 pound dog (mammoth in Korea--trust me). She had no problem finding me an awesome public school job in the country with decent housing. I think the key to bringing a lab is just warning the recruiter in a casual way. It really didn't seem like a big deal. Just be prepared for the looks of disgust and horror every time you leave the house with your monster. You'll feel like you're walking a rabid flying monkey.

you still have to undergo a quarantine inspection procedure for your dog when you arrive in korea (according to pettravel.com). if you have all your papers and your dog appears in good health, then it will be released the same day to you.

I don't mind the looks as long as I can have my 75lb monster dog Wink Could you trefer me to your recruiter? Anyone else knowing recruiters that don't mind the extra work of finding someplace dog friendly please let me know Smile

Well thats a given for any country, South Kouth Korea's custom requirments are really pretty simple you need proof of rabies vaciantion and a certificate from your own local vet that was issued within ten days of arrival. The ten days thing is an airlines requirement Smile

Good lord, where would find the huge bags of dog food to support such a beast? I don't see those big bags of dog chow like back home. Seen some small bags for small cute puppies like my neighbors keep in walled in crusty gray concrete yards.
