I see why many complain.

I'm going on my second week of no lessons. Yes, they come. No, I don't teach. I am following the lead of all the other teachers in the school. I used to do lessons but now I've joined the 2 week lull club that comes before each vacation.

In doing this I think to myself, I would be really, really bored desk warming during vacation. No amount of movies, games, online chatting, surfing, lesson planning and personal studying would be enough to fill the time for me.

Anyway, my school will eventually catch on and I'll have to do it in the future I'm sure. The point of my post is to let you know that it sucks and I would complain too. There is no sarcasm here and I am not boasting. The ones who complain get trashed on this site as whiners. My time will come and I will complain too.

why would anyone complain about being paid to watch movies and play on facebook? If you want to teach then do it. Don't say that you are following the crowd and then complain about it.

I understand complaining about it. It's the complainers that renew the contract that I don't understand.

I'm teaching every day this vacation. 4 hours without a coteacher will be fun, and kill time. The second half of the day I'll play online, nap, and finish up the last of next term's lessons. Most are done, so I've got a LOT of time to kill.

I prefer teaching without a coteacher.

My last days of teaching is a week from this Tuesday, then vacation until August 1. Then riding the desk until August 10 for another 11 days vacation. The days I desk warm I'll be bringing in my jump rope, watching tv shows, and reading Shakespeare because it's much more enjoyable and useful than studying another language.

I'm working at a public school this year, and I'm looking forward to it because last year I worked at a hagwon.

Last year I had a one-week vacation, which was about enough time to go to Namsan tower. This year, I'll be home for over two weeks. Then, I'll come to school and read or play video games. Whatever.

Last year I spend August working intensives so I was working from 10 am to 9 pm every day for the month. Of course the hagwon had the contract written in a way that I barely got any extra pay.

So, no, I will not complain about getting paid to sit around playing video games or napping.

Good point.

Really?

Because anything you complain about must be important enough to quit a job over? Many complain about their spouses without any intention of getting a divorce. What's wrong with complaining about something that bothers one? Don't complain about mosquitoes if you don't plan to move to Alaska? Who be so weak-kneed that one can't stomach a little criticism about things? Should we all seek the perfect job and not settle for anything less? I love many things about my job and my life here but that doesn't mean I don't have any complaints. Geez. If you don't run away from it you gotta pretend it's 100% sweet as roses?! Get real.
