Hi, I'm thinking of coming to Korea next year but as I tie off the last loose ends at University I have a chance to get a diploma (not a certificate) in TESOL. Is it worth the money I'll spend?
I'm wondering if the money I can make will be that much more or the job that much better with the diploma. I just don't want to waste my time and money doing something that's not gonna make a difference.
How are diplomas treated vs. the $200 certificates advertised on this site?

in my opinion, if you have a degree, a TESOL cert is more than enough. For some countries like China where not all places require you a Uni degree, a diploma in TESOL would be beneficial if you only have a high school diploma, otherwise you are just wasting your money (i.e. getting the same pay).

If you plan on teaching anyplace other than Korea then a Dip. TESOL is worthwhile.

If you are only going to go to Korea for a year or two in order to bank some coin then cost/benefit analysis would suggest that if the cost of the diploma is more than $2000 you will lose money on it.

In Korea your dip is worth the same as the $200 on-line tefl cert (100k per month in increased salary).
