So, I've recently been informed our kindy will have a public performance in January. We are told to put something together for each class to do. Basically just a short song (maybe dance) and a short speaking part.
My kids are pretty good English speakers for their age. So far all I got is singing a short song they like with some hand motions and a few steps. Simple enough. But the speaking part has got me stumped. My boss would like to see something more than just recited lines, but of course it's can't be complicated like a short play with cues, entrances, and exits.
So, any help? Any ideas at all? |

I find this confusing. Even "Hamlet" is just recited lines, but I guess your boss is looking for acting/drama as well? Certianly he can't mean improv comedy...
I guess you'll have to do some sort of super simple play, without cues, entrances, and exits... Like one kid pretends to be santa and the other kids request stuff. Sorry I'm not more helpful, I suck at this sort of thing... |

Is this a Christmas theme that you are to follow? If so I would suggest that you get them to recite the story, "The Night Before Christmas." Have them each read a line of the poem having them hold large picture cards(stockings, mouse, fireplace, Santa, etc.) and have the Night Before Christmas story written on the back incase they forget their lines. It is a lot of work to put all this together! I hope that your boss gives you more than a few weeks!
Good Luck! |

My elementary hagwon has a bi-weekly acting performance and it depends largely on what your students are willing to do.
My best successes have been when I've stressed overacting. I especially find that boys love anything that lets them scream or pretend like they're fighting or angry.
A few simple props are very helpful. THe kids will feel less self-conscious about trying to act stuff out if you do just a little bit to make them feel like they're not just standing up in front of people reading off their lines. Like i did a skit with bank robbers where i put a toy gun and like 3,000 won on the table and the kids thought that was great.
But then there are some kids who are super self-conscious and no matter how much I try just refuse to get into the acting and are just memorizing lines. |
