|
|
My account is with Hana Bank, and after filling out all the forms, I waited for, no joke, 45 minutes before the clerk came back and said that because I was a non-national I could not have an internationally recognised debit card like a maestro or visa electron.
To avoid going through the same thing again, can anyone tell me if they have either of these and which bank they have it with. I'm going on holiday soon and I really resent the idea of either having to withdraw lots of cash before I go OR having to transfer money to my home account for a fee and then pay another fee to use my home debit card abroad.
I can understand why I would not be eligible for a credit card - but a DEBIT card? |

i've got one from daegu bank (not sure if you're in daegu tho)... worked like a charm in japan, taiwan, cambodia and the philippines...
my advice, just try another branch of your bank... it really is hit or miss with the banking system here... good luck |

Corkgirl,
The banks are pretty bad about giving out debit cards. I would try to set up an account at KEB Bank. When I first here I banked with Hana Bank and while they aren't bad (their stock is though), I am quite a bit happier with KEB. |

I have international cards with both KEB and Standard Chartered ("Do Dream account") and both cards work fine abroad.
Avoid all the other banks IMO other than the above 2. |
