Did the rules for getting a drivers license forna US citizen change recently? I thought it was as easy as going to the office, taking a simple eye test and health test, paying a fee and giving them your Amercan license. I had my wfe call there and they gave a super long list of things I need to do to get a license. Did something change, or did the woman my wife talked to not know what she was talking about? |

show up with your american license (you'll have to surrender it, but get it back when you leave country if you like), two passport sized photos, $, take a simple eye test and stretching test (had to squat and touch my nose), take a written test on the computer (which is a bit tricky), and there you go... in daegu, we even have our own special line and don't have to mingle with the natives...

According to the website it is still the same. I would have your wife call again and make sure she tells them you have a driver's license from your home country.

They now require an affidavit from the US embassy that states my license is authentic. It was something passed in February of 2010.

Ugh, I wonder if that is going to be required for renewals (thankfully I still have 8 years). The US Embassy just jacked their fees up as well. The timing sucks. |

Along with this, is there a place where I can find a practice test for the written test. I'm pretty sure the rules can't be terribly different than driving in the USA, but there might be some oddities that I am not aware of.

They have computers set up outside the test room that you can practice taking the test on. I think it has a thousand won a test or something. That was about a year ago. |
