Subject line says it all.
There doesn't seem to be much choice between shelling out the big bucks for one of the trusted names (oxford etc) or sheepishly using something dodgy like the dictionary.com one.
I'd really like to find something that:
1/ doesn't require an internet connection (ie all of the data resides on the device)
2/ has some kind of integration between english-english and english-korean dictionaries, so you can jump back and forth with one click
3/ chinese characters (as used in Korea)
Do share your experience! |

I downloaded YBM EKE (English Korean English) dictionary. http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/id312037975?mt=8
It's $16.99, but I use it all the time, and I speak Korean at an intermediate level so I find it very, very useful and worth the money. No internet required, Chinese characters, example sentences and phrases, etc.
It's incredibly easy to jump back and forth from Korean to English. Just start typing in either language. |

YBM is by far the best dictionary. the content on each entry is amazing. Lots of example sentences in both languages with translations to show how to use the word in various contexts. There is no English-english and I don't know that you'd find a dictionary like that at all, but dictionary.com's app is free
the YBM dictionary has chinese letters, but you can't search by them as far as I know. It just shows them. |

I saw YBM there but don't know why I didn't really consider it. I downloaded Dong-A first ($15), and was disappointed when two searches for K-E words came up empty, so I downloaded Min-Jung ($20) which seems to have more words in it.
Both of those also have Chinese characters beside the Hangeul entries, but I'm still on the lookout for a dedicated Chinese dictionary as well.
As for E-E, I downloaded good ol' Oxford which was a bit stiff at $30, but it's got a lot more words in it than the "Advanced Learner's" edition that ships with electronic dictionaries.
Also still on the lookout for a phrasal verb +/or idiom dictionary. |

YBM includes an English to Korean Idiom/phrasal verb dictionary.
I've been petitioning them to add Korean to English. |

They also answer emails in English and are receptive to suggestions. I sent them an email about a few issues, they said they'd look into it, next update everything was addressed. |
