If you want to get onto Hulu or other US-only sites this information will help. (the last few paragraphs of the blog give a recommendation for a highly reliable and fully functional VPN system that came recommended to me from my associate at Embassy Beijing (US.)
This information is more critical for those of us in China. But for my Korean-based teacher friends, here's an explanation of the Great Firewall of China and ways to bypass it (reliably and securely.) The information about VPN and proxies is also handy for those in Korea who want full access to YouTube functions and other sites with "modified" accessibility. It's also handy for those trying to skirt business or institutional firewalls in any country.
Best part: I can access Hulu and US TV websites from China, Korea (or anywhere.. not to mention Youtube, facebook, twitter, etc..)
Enjoy!

You're trying to sell a service mate.
That isn't very cool. |

No one is asking anyone to buy anything. I merely gave a recommendation for a good VPN service after a rather thorough explanation as to government firewall efforts. The information is completely valid regardless of what VPN provider one chooses. But a product recommendation is often welcome when it comes to trying to solve a particular problem.
If you read what I said, I also explained how free proxies work. For those that want a way around restrictive web situations, I gave a good method in which to accomplish that goal. The information about the Chinese Firewall (and also insight into how the Koreans might also be playing the web-blocker/verification game) isn't a sales pitch. The fact that I gave a recommendation for a good service isn't any different than someone recommending a good brand of computer or a suggested restaurant.
Trying to sell something is a bad thing? If the thing one is offering is a good product or a solution to a problem that many people have, then I don't see a problem. It would be quite another issue if I were trying to sell some crap product that no one needs or if I were suggesting something that I don't even use.
What would you have suggested. Just say, "Use a VPN" and leave it at that? With the proliferation of crappy services out there, I would expect that some people here would be interested in VPNs that actually work and actually solve the problem. |

Actually Hulu has been "smart" to Hotspot for sometime....so it doesnt work everytime...
I have yet to find a VPN that is reliable with streaming media and I have been looking for several months.
I found a review of Black Logic here:
http://www.vpnreviews.com/?p=82
Apparently this service is a no-go if you are doing anything with torrents AND they keep logs.
Another review is here:
http://myvpnreviews.com/blacklogic/#reviews
I guess there are issues but some customers seem to be satisfied....I might give Black Logic a temporary try.
I would warn anyone about signing up for a year contract with a VPN. Many of these services start-up...advertise for new customers without increasing their bandwidth...and lose reliability/speed several months down the road. |

I've been here in Korea for a bit over 2.5 years now and I love to listen to streaming music sites. www.pandora.com was my favorite back in Houston.
Somebody told me about HotSpot Shield and I used it successfully for a few months. But suddenly, I started being refused by Pandora. Somehow they could tell I was in Korea.
Anybody have any idea why that might have happened? Could it have had anything to do with my ID and PW and maybe they somehow had a log of a previous login attemt that showed I was in Korea?
Regardless, I'd sure like to find a proxy that actually works. Not only for Pandora but I've gotten that same, "..sorry but you seem to be in a country where this content is not available...." .
Regards,
