| I want to correct the sentence for "I can play Taekwondo." What's the proper verb here. I was thinking practice. |

"Do" seems too simple. |

I believe the proper term is "I practice taekwondo"
Just as it is I practice karate, kung-fu, savate, hopkido, akkido, etc... |

you could say perform and sound like a giant A-Hole i guess.
Do is correct.
You can't say practice if you are actually talking about fighting. |

I agree with crisdean on using 'practice' when speaking of any of the martial arts. |

| "Study" is also acceptable. Of course. |

Because language evolves maybe one day this will be the system.
I taekwondo
You taekwondo
He/She taekwondoes
We taekwondo
They taekwondo
Yesterday I taekwondoed.
Tomorrrow I will taekwondo.
If I had more time I would taekwondo.
I would have taekwondoed, if I had know you were watching.
etc.

I think they have a similar system already in French.

I do gymnastics. I do Karate. I do TaeKwondo.
That is the standard.
As stated above, practice, study, and train in are also acceptable but that is more passive than doing.
At what point do stop practicing and start competing or doing it?
I like chicken's evolution. Similar to boxing. |

I believe that the correct verb is karate chop.
I karate chop taekwondo.
study or take would also work along with do |

"Do" is too nondescriptive and also very awkward.
At the precompetition level "Study" and "practice"
When it becomes a competition, use the verb "compete"
"I am competing in a Tae Kwon Do tournament."
You can also call the competition a "fight."
" I am fighting in a Tae Kwon Do tournament." |

For most sports (as well as other related activities) the verbs are "do", "play" and "go". You "do" martial arts.
But you can probably find this along with a very good description of why in almost any grammar book. |
