How many of you get the rent subsidy? I get it myself and chose to get my own place with my own deposit. But I read some comments on here about some newbies being told by EPIK to indicate they don't want the subsidy or they won't be hired. Don't know why they'd want you to take a crappy run down old building. Kind of hypocritical when these people live in nice apartments. I lived in a small town last year with a building that had problems and the supervisor wouldn't let me leave and get my own accomodation. Told me all foriegners must live in the same building. He was just being a stubborn a$$. So, I transferred to a new town.
Seems this bad economy is turning them into a-holes. Lets hope those of us who stay will remember this once the economy improves and there's a shortage again of English teachers. |

| I put the deposit down on my apartment and the school pays me an extra 400.000 for the rent. My rent is only 300.000, so I get to pocket the difference. |

| My husband and I get subsidies; we actually didn't get a choice in the matter. First thing they did when we got here was take us on a tour of 3 different apartments. We didn't pay the deposit and we were so jet lagged I'm not sure how that part even worked. |

| My school vice-prince told me that if I could find another apartment I liked better, they wouldn't have a problem giving me 500,000W for the rent. And my school is not one of the showpiece schools either, but it is in a wealthy area. |
