|
|
Hi all,
So I'm thinking of taking a few extra days off during Chuseok and making it a week of travel. I noticed flight prices are obviously pretty expensive then, but I'd like to pick a destination where the cost of travel is pretty low once you get there.
Here are some considerations:
- I definitely want some sort of beach/relaxation activity available, but culture would be nice too.
- I've never been to Southeast Asia, so would like to go to a good "starter country", LOL. I'm not averse to hitting more than one destination, either.
- Will probably travel alone, but definitely want to meet people/other backpackers/etc.
Where do y'all think would be a good place to spend Chuseok with those considerations in mind? I'm thinking of spending 7 days in Thailand, but my mom grew up in Indonesia, so it might be interesting to head to Bali and see pieces of her childhood.
I've also heard the Philippines is really inexpensive.
If you recommend a place, where in the country did you like to go? |

Inexpensive is relative and doesn't really work as a short term tourist.
Seriously, you had better budget about us$100 per day for your trip + your airfare. You can always bring back the un-used money (if you have any).
The tourist prices in all 3 places are similar so it would depend more on flight possibilities (especially now - they are getting pretty booked up). |

ditto the last poster.....daily expenses are about the same in all three places......indonesia is probably the cheapest place to travel but northern thailand is also pretty cheap........your cheapest flight right now is probably to bangkok but the flight wont be direct........this is an expensive week to travel so book soon..... |

I'd just stick with one spot and spend all week there. Not enough time to mess around going to two or more places.
That said, I'd suggest Thailand. Southern Thailand, like Phuket, Phi phi, Samui, Phangan or Tao. Can't go wrong with any of those... |

Good luck getting a ticket in time for Chuseok. Prices will be sky high and even then, getting a ticket will be tough. |

Jeju Air and Jin Air have direct flights to Bangkok for around 600,000 won. Pricey? Yes. Astronomical these days? Unfortunately, no. |

You can try Cebu Pacific from Incheon to Manila or Cebu and then go from there. If they are sold out, you can try from Busan, and take a KTX there. It'll add to your expenses.
Most tickets are gone now. I recommend going on some waiting lists. |

Thanks for the tips, all. I think I'll skip a Chuseok trip, since it's so expensive, and just take a big trip when my contract ends in January. |

When in January are you going? Jan. 1-20 or so is considered high season, too. |

Not as bad as Chuseok though. At least he'll have some dates to work around. Not like Chuseok where some days are okay (say, in the middle of the holiday) but the tail ends are absolute no goes. |

Chuseok, Christmas, New Year's and Lunar New Year's are considered PEAK seasons, which are totally different animals. |
